Why Are You Running For Cambridge City Council?

Ward 7 is growing quickly, and residents deserve a councillor focused on both the big picture and the everyday details. I’m running to get the basics right, make sure infrastructure keeps pace with growth and bring practical scrutiny to City spending.

What Experience Do You Bring To The Role?

I co-founded and grew a successful business, currently manage operations at Wesley United Church and have served as an elected school board trustee since 2022. My experience includes budgets, capital projects, governance, community services and difficult public decisions.

WAS YOUR TIME AS A TRUSTEE JUST A STEPPING STONE?

​No. I am proud of my work as a trustee and have taken the responsibility seriously throughout my term. I am seeking a seat on City Council because many of the issues residents raise with me, including growth, roads, recreation and neighbourhood services, are decided at City Hall. I am ready to apply what I have learned to serving Ward 7 and Cambridge more broadly.

what are your top priorities?

My priorities are straightforward:
Get the Basics Right: Reliable services, safer streets, well-maintained roads, sidewalks, parks and neighbourhoods.
Grow the Right Way: More housing, jobs and investment, with roads, infrastructure and services keeping pace.
Deliver Value for Tax Dollars: Clear priorities, responsible spending and City services that deliver results.

what do you mean by "getting the basics right?"

​Residents should be able to count on the basic services City Hall is responsible for. That means clearing snow when it needs to be cleared, maintaining roads and sidewalks, addressing neighbourhood parking and traffic concerns, keeping parks and public spaces in good condition, and responding when residents ask for help. Big projects and long-term planning matter, but good municipal government is also measured by how well it handles the things people encounter every day.

what do you mean by "growing the right way?"

​Cambridge needs more housing, jobs and investment, but growth has to be planned well. Roads, infrastructure, parks, recreation and City services need to keep pace, and new development should strengthen existing neighbourhoods rather than simply add pressure to them.

what do you mean by "delivering value for tax dollars?"

​It means setting clear priorities, protecting essential services, reviewing spending carefully and making sure residents can see the results their tax dollars are producing. Sometimes good value means finding savings; sometimes it means making the right investment now to avoid higher costs later.

What is your approach to property taxes and City spending?

Every tax dollar should have a job. I believe Council needs to set clear priorities, spend responsibly and make sure residents are getting real value for the taxes they pay.
Growth can help broaden the tax base, but it is not a substitute for disciplined spending. I will support necessary investments while asking tough questions about costs, efficiency and lower-priority spending.

what is your vision for cambridge?

Cambridge should face its future with confidence. We can welcome new residents, support new housing and attract businesses and investment while ensuring infrastructure keeps pace and established neighbourhoods remain strong.
My vision is a Cambridge that is connected, prosperous and welcoming, with good jobs, complete neighbourhoods and a stronger shared identity.

ARE YOU PRO-DEVELOPMENT?

Yes. Cambridge needs housing, commercial development, jobs and investment. I support responsible development that is well planned, financially sustainable and supported by the infrastructure and services residents need.​ That's what I mean by growing the right way.

HOW WILL YOU SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES?

I will support predictable City processes, reliable infrastructure, serviced employment lands, local procurement where appropriate and responsive service for businesses seeking to invest or expand.​

what are your thoughts on transportation?

​Ward 7 needs safe roads, reliable public transit, practical walking and cycling options and better connections to the rest of Cambridge and Waterloo Region. Transportation decisions should reflect how residents actually move through the community.​

WHY DOES MCQUEEN SHAVER BOULEVARD MATTER TO WARD 7?

McQueen Shaver Boulevard is an important missing connection in Cambridge’s transportation network. Completing it and the future East Boundary Road would better serve growing neighbourhoods and provide a more logical route for through traffic and heavy trucks.

The project is primarily controlled by the Region, but Cambridge must continue advocating for a clear timeline, better coordination and practical interim measures addressing speeding, truck traffic, noise and neighbourhood safety.

Do you see Cambridge as one city or as Galt, Preston and Hespeler?

​Our historic communities are an important part of Cambridge’s identity, but they should be a source of pride rather than division. Cambridge has been one city since 1973, and its future must include every neighbourhood and everyone who calls it home.

what is your approach to decision-making?

​Good decisions begin with listening. I will understand the facts, hear different perspectives, consider long-term impacts and explain my decisions clearly. Residents deserve thoughtful and transparent leadership, especially when an issue is complicated.

are you endorsed by any political party?

No. Municipal elections in Ontario are non-partisan. My focus is representing Ward 7 and making decisions based on what is best for our community.
